Stonewall Sports – Philadelphia is looking for passionate, community-driven volunteers to join our leadership team! We are currently recruiting for several exciting positions. These roles offer a unique opportunity to help shape the future of our organization, connect with our community, and make a meaningful impact.
The Commissioner serves as a member of the Stonewall Sports-Philadelphia Board for a 1 year term with the opportunity to continue the role for up to 3 additional terms. This role is responsible for guiding the vision of the organization, supporting Board members, and managing the day to day operations of Stonewall Stonewall Sports-Philadelphia which includes:
Guiding the Board and organization at large to ensure the mission and vision of Stonewall are being realized through all leagues and activities.
Managing overall Board Member expectations and performance through regular communications, bi-annual 1-1 check-ins, and general expectation setting.
Overseeing and implementing policies, procedures, and management structure of the organization that ensure effective and efficient operation. .
Serving as a liaison with external organizational partners in collaboration with relevant Board Members to build Stonewall’s brand in the community.
Participating in monthly Executive Committee meetings
Presiding over monthly meetings of the Board and collaborating with the Executive Committee to set the agenda.
Approving funding decisions and ensuring fiscal stability for the organization.
Collaborating with the Communications Director to guide organization's brand and voice.
Responding to member feedback on a regular basis and remaining an accessible member of the community across the organization.
Managing escalated issues related to captain challenges, player sportsmanship, player injury, sports, facilities, and partner concerns.
Liaising with Stonewall Nationals, attending chapter leader calls, and providing local connection to the larger organization.
Ensuring compliance with governing policies.
Additionally, by serving as a member of the Stonewall Sports Board, the Commissioner is expected to:
Uphold the mission of Stonewall Sports-Philadelphia
Commit 8-10 hours a week to Stonewall Sports activities/duties depending on time of year.
Attend monthly Board Meetings typically on the 4th Tuesday of the month from 7:00-9:00.
Participate in additional meetings and calls as needed between scheduled Board Meetings.
Support Stonewall social events, leagues, communication efforts, nonprofit partners, and sponsors as able or requested throughout the year.
While engaging in Stonewall Sports, serve as a model member of the Stonewall community through exhibiting sportsmanship, promoting inclusivity, and building community with our league members and the Philadelphia LGBTQIA community at large.
You are an experienced Stonewall Sports – Philadelphia member with a passion for our leagues and the player experience. You are driven to serve the community and support outreach and philanthropic efforts for the organization.
In your first month you will:
Attend Board Orientation and your first Board meeting.
Meet with various Board members and officers to learn more about their and your roles.
The Sports Director serves as a member of the Stonewall Sports – Philadelphia Board for a 2-year term with the possibility to continue the role for additional terms. This role is responsible for supporting League Operations, League Directors and League Management.
Providing support to League Directors (i.e., billiards, bocce, bowling, dodgeball, kickball, pickleball, Stonewall In Motion, trivia, volleyball, and yoga), including supporting leagues when League Director is unavailable
Working with League Directors to ensure team capacity requirements are met and that teams receive all preseason communication.
Overseeing successful implementation of leagues through supporting Directors to lead League Management teams, league events, day of play, manage inventory of league equipment, and all league scheduling logistics.
Reviewing and responding to member feedback about league experience and making recommendations to the league/program Directors & the Stonewall Board.
Work with the Operations Director and Finance Director to identify potential new venues
Maintaining a knowledge of Stonewall Sports-Philadelphia league rules and ensuring they remain updated.
Providing feedback regarding league related communication sent to players.
Collaborating with Member Experience Director to support free agent teams and new members.
Uphold the mission of Stonewall Sports – Philadelphia.
Attend monthly Board Meetings.
Participate in additional meetings and calls as needed.
Support Stonewall social events, leagues, communication efforts, charities, and sponsors as able or requested to throughout the year.
Commit 2 to 8 hours a week to Stonewall activities depending on time of year.
Serve as a model member of the Stonewall community by exhibiting sportsmanship, promoting inclusivity, and building community within our leagues, activities, and Philadelphia’s LGBTQIA+ communities at large.
The Stonewall Sports – Philadelphia is also encouraged to participate on the Stonewall Sports, Inc. National DEIA committee.
You are an experienced Stonewall Sports – Philadelphia member with a passion for managing the logistics of various sports activities.
In your first month you will:
Attend Board Orientation and your first Board meeting.
Meet with various Board members and officers to learn more about their and your roles.
The Events & Gaming Director serves as a member of the Stonewall Sports-Philadelphia Board for a 2 year term with the opportunity to continue the role for additional terms. This role is responsible for overseeing the work of the Events & Gaming Committee and leading the planning and implementation of Stonewall events which includes:
Supporting and directing the Events & Gaming Committee, a team of active members of the Stonewall Sports-Philadelphia community comprised of 3-4 Events Committee members
Leading the planning and implementation of Stonewall Sport’s events including the Ball, Pride Nights with local sports teams, and socials with other organizations
Maintain the organization’s events calendar in collaboration with the League Operations Director
Oversee the management of the Trivia program, including
Selecting Trivia Hosts
Ensuring season schedules are set and communicated
Occasionally guest hosting Trivia if a regular host is unavailable
Note that as Events & Gaming Director you are not eligible to be a regular trivia host or be compensated for guest hosting.
Collaborating and consulting with the Communications Director, Sponsorship & Fundraising Director, and Finance Director to ensure effective event implementation
Improving event attendance, inclusivity, and engagement by members of the Stonewall community and greater Philadelphia community through planning and marketing
Working closely with the Diversity & Inclusion Director and Education Director in planning and aligning the work of Stonewall committees
Building on existing and establishing new partnerships to improve events
Exploring opportunities to expand Stonewall Sports social offerings to increase partnerships with local charities and organize events that center on non-drinking focused activities

This role is perfect for a member of the Stonewall Community who is passionate about events & gaming and is looking forward to being a leader while continuing and expanding our offerings in this area. You’re a motivated self starter who is comfortable working in a team environment and managing the efforts of other contributors. Ideally you have some experience coordinating large scale events but that’s not a deal breaker!
